STEP 1: In the video player, select Settings (gear icon in the bottom right corner). 

STEP 2: Click on Quality.

STEP 3: Select the video quality you want to use.

STEP 1: Launch the YouTube app on your phone and play any video.

STEP 2: Tap the three stacked dots menu.

STEP 3: Click on Quality.

STEP 4: Select the resolution you want to use.

STEP 1: Launch the YouTube app on your smart TV, and play any video.

STEP 2: Click on the More Options tab.

STEP 3: Select the video quality option in the list of options.

If you lower the resolution on a video you’re viewing, it should run smoother. It won’t look as great as 4K, but at least you won’t have to worry about it buffering. How To Set The Default Video Quality On YouTube

While YouTube automatically chooses video quality according to your internet connection, you have the option to set the default quality.

 

STEP 1: In the video player, select Settings (gear icon in the bottom right corner).

STEP 2: Click on Quality.

STEP 3: Select the video quality you want to use, and YouTube will remember the setting.
