How To Reset Notepad To Its Default Settings In Windows 10

  • Notepad is a built-in basic text editor you can find in the Windows operating system.
  • In Notepad, you can easily customize the font, its style, size, word wrap, the window position, etc.
  • It’s quite easy to reset Notepad to its default settings.

 

Every version of Windows comes with a simple text editor called Notepad. It’s a basic text editor however, it can easily customized to suit any working needs.  

In Notepad you are able to customize the default font, font style, and font size, enable or disable word wrap and the status bar, or even the size and position of the Notepad window.

If you are using notepad every day, and already customized it, you probably ask yourself, if there is a way to reset it to the default settings.

For your information, it’s relatively easy. In this article, you will learn how to reset Notepad to its default settings for your account in Windows 10. 

Note: This guide works for Windows XP, 7, 8, and 10. 

 

How To Reset Notepad To Its Default Settings In Windows 10

 

STEP 1: Open the Registry Editor by clicking on the Start menu and typing Regedit.

STEP 2: Press Enter to open Registry Editor. 

STEP 3: In Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad

STEP 4: After you found the Notepad file, right-click on it, and then select Delete from the popup menu.

 

After you click on the delete option, all your saved settings for the Notepad will be deleted. (Credit: Nechstar / Click to zoom)

 

STEP 5: On the Confirm Key Delete dialog box, click Yes.

STEP 6: Close the Registry Editor, and now, all you saved settings for the Notepad text editor will be deleted. 

The default settings will take effect, the next time you open Notepad, and a new Notepad key will be created in the registry.
