WhatsApp launched in 2009 and quickly became one of the most popular texts and voice messaging application ever.
It is so popular for a reason.
WhatsApp is free and allows you to use a Wi-Fi or data to make audio and video calls. For its security and ease-of-use, the mobile app has no competitor.
However, WhatsApp has also a standalone desktop version for Windows and Mac, launched in 2015, but there are still people who aren’t aware of that fact.
The Difference Between WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop
Whatsapp Web and Whatsapp Desktop are basically the same software. All the features you have in WhatsApp Web are available in WhatsApp Desktop too.
The main, and only, difference is that WhatsApp Web runs on your browser without a need for installation. On the other hand, WhatsApp Desktop needs to be installed on your PC (Mac or Windows).
However, if you are new to the app, you will find WhatsApp Web easier to use. All you have to do is log in to the WhatsApp website from any browser and follow the instructions on the homepage.
After then all of your messages should instantly appear on your computer.
Both versions of WhatsApp for PC and the version for smartphones let you send pictures and other types of files.
How to Use WhatsApp on Your Computer
To use WhatsApp on your computer, you have to download the mobile app first. In fact, the computer version doesn’t work without synchronization with the WhatsApp app on your smartphone. Once you install a WhatsApp into your phone, follow these steps:
Open WhatsApp on your phone, and go to your chat list.
Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), and select the WhatsApp web.
There is a QR code on the website, point your phone on it.
After a successful scan, the WhatsApp client will open and let you see any messages you already have on your phone.
For security, don’t forget to log out. Click on the three-dot menu above the chats list, and click on Log out at the bottom.
Note: Because the applications sync directly with your smartphone, your phone must be connected to the internet when you use the WhatsApp web client. However, you can still close down WhatsApp on your phone and use it from your computer.
