What Is Philips Hue Dimmer Switch With Remote?

The Philips Hue Dimmer Switch is a smart way to control your lights without the need to use your smartphone, or without getting up from your couch or bed. It is a simple solution similar to a normal light switch with the integrated dimmer circuit. You can mount the Dimmer Switch anywhere in your house just using adhesive strips or screws mounted on any wall.

Setting Up The Dimmer Switch

The switch that is included in the box magnetically clips on to a wall mount (also in the box) and a set of batteries – CR2450, 3V. The wall mount has sticky pads and can be easily placed on the wall or just use the screw eye holes to wall-mount it. Setting up the Dimmer Switch is a very easy process. Just pull out the plastic strip to power it up and then use the Philips Hue app to add the switch. Next step is to select a room you want it linked to. That´s all, just turning on the lights where your Philips Hue bulbs are installed, and then you can start using the Dimmer. There is no interference between the Dimmer and your traditional wall switch. ¨

One Philips Hue Dimmer Switch allows you to pair up to 10 smart bulbs, but you can use multiple Dimmer Switches if you need more then 10 bulbs to use simultaneously.

How To Change The Battery In Philips Hue Dimmer Switch?

This switch requires batteries to function. It runs on a single CR2450 battery (included) that you will need to be changed after some time. According to Philips, one battery will last at least 2 years before it needs replacing. The process itself is very simple, and here is how to do that.

  • Remove the Dimmer Switch from its mount on the wall.
  • Use a screwdriver to remove the battery screw from the Dimmer Switch.
  • Remove the battery cover.
  • Remove the battery and replace it with a new one.
  • Put back the battery cover on the Dimmer Switch and screw in the screw.
  • Place the Dimmer Switch back into its mount on the wall.

Do You Need To Use The Dimmer Switch With the Philips Hue Bridge Hub?

If you don´t want to invest another $50 for Bridge Hub, you can use the Dimmer Switch without it. It is not necessary at all, but you would miss a few interesting features. Connecting the Smart Dimmer Switch with Bridge gives you an option to control any Alexa or Homekit smart home device.
