Just pull out the plastic strip to power it up and then use the Philips Hue app to add the switch. Next step is to select a room you want it linked to. This switch requires batteries to function. It runs on a single CR2450 battery (included) that you will need to be changed after some time. According to Philips, one battery will last at least 2 years before it needs replacing. The process itself is very simple, and here is how to do that.
- Remove the Dimmer Switch from its mount on the wall.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the battery screw from the Dimmer Switch.
- Remove the battery cover.
- Remove the battery and replace it with a new one.
- Put back the battery cover on the Dimmer Switch and screw in the screw.
- Place the Dimmer Switch back into its mount on the wall.
Do You Need To Use The Dimmer Switch With the Philips Hue Bridge Hub?
If you don´t want to invest another $50 for Bridge Hub, you can use the Dimmer Switch without it. It is not necessary at all, but you would miss a few interesting features. Connecting the Smart Dimmer Switch with Bridge gives you an option to control any Alexa or Homekit smart home device.
